State-by-State Analysis: 2.8 Million Americans Would Lose Unemployment Benefits Under GOP Plan
WASHINGTON – House Republicans continue to push for a proposal that would slash unemployment insurance and result in 2.8 million Americans losing unemployment benefits compared to a continuation of current law, new Department of Labor data shows. Under the House Republican measure – which the House GOP passed in December before ultimately retreating and endorsing a short-term extension of existing law – federal unemployment insurance would decline by 40 weeks in States with high unemployment.
