Neal Statement on September 2025 Jobs Report
WASHINGTON, DC— Ways and Means Committee Ranking Member Richard E. Neal (D-MA) released the following statement after the Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS) released the overdue September 2025 jobs report:
“After inheriting an economy that was creating an average of over 168,000 jobs per month just a year ago, Trump’s economy continues to underperform, with revisions and his agenda leaving space for an average of just 44,000 jobs a month on average since June. This late report echoes the painful reality of Trump’s economy where new opportunities aren’t being created for those who need them, the share of the adult population that is working is at its lowest point since the pandemic, and his illegal tariffs continue to make jobs evaporate. The Republican trifecta has been defined by a race to reverse our progress as they cut taxes for the ultra-wealthy while bludgeoning everyone else with soaring costs and less opportunity.
“House Republicans could hold a vote today to end the economic pain they’ve created with President Trump. Families are in dire need of relief from their destruction and cruelty, but sadly, it’s only going to get worse. When Republicans let our robust health care investments expire, every prescription and procedure skipped, every hospital closure, and every layoff will ripple through the already-fragile economy. With the holidays just around the corner, the people simply cannot afford this agenda that prioritizes the President’s ego and wallet above their own.”
