Neal Statement on February 2026 Jobs Report

SPRINGFIELD, MA— Ways and Means Committee Ranking Member Richard E. Neal (D-MA) released the following statement after the Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS) released the February 2026 jobs report:

“The warning signs about this economy have been flashing for months. Yet Republicans ignored them, doubled down on the President’s failure, and left families with an economy limping as costs soared and growth weakened. Now the data has caught up with them, and the verdict is clear: Trump’s policies are a disaster for the economy, and the American people are paying the price. 

“Since Trump launched his illegal tariff scheme, the economy has lost jobs, a stark failure that prove his policies are dragging the economy backward. For months, with companies spooked to invest and hire, the labor market was being dangerously propped up a single sector. Now even that support in health care is weakening, and Republican cuts threaten to pull the rug out from under the one area that has been keeping the job market afloat.

“Democrats won’t join Republicans in settling for this failure. We believe in American workers and have seen their determination to turn around a failed Trump economy before. We believe in an economy that once again breaks records and expands opportunity for every family. Americans deserve that stronger growth—not leaders who lower expectations and call it a win.”
