Neal Statement on Failure to Release September 2025 Jobs Report
SPRINGFIELD, MA— Ways and Means Committee Ranking Member Richard E. Neal (D-MA) released the following statement after the Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS) failed to publish the September 2025 jobs report due to the Republican government shutdown:
“Inflicting pain has become the defining marker of the Trump presidency. After once promising to lower prices on day one, the President has made his sole focus steering the economy off the edge. Workers and families don’t need a missing report to know the truth: costs are up, manufacturing is stalled, and hiring is frozen. Just as our farmers—crying out from the pain of the President’s tariffs—won’t be fooled as he scrambles to cover up his failures, neither will the American people who are being pinched as they watch the job market wobble with negative revisions.
“It doesn’t have to be this way, and hiding the numbers won’t shield Americans from feeling the squeeze of Trump’s failed economy. Republicans must end their shutdown, turn the tariffs off, and protect American families from the onslaught of higher costs headed their way.”
