Neal Statement on Failure to Release October 2025 Jobs Report
SPRINGFIELD, MA— Ways and Means Committee Ranking Member Richard E. Neal (D-MA) released the following statement after the Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS) failed to release a monthly jobs report for a second consecutive month amidst the Republican Shutdown:
“An Administration hell-bent on hiding the truth about its failed economic strategy for the second month in a row cannot shield Americans from feeling the weight of it. Whether it’s at the grocery checkout, in the doctor’s office, or on their energy bills, Americans know the Trump economy isn’t working for them. Burying the numbers won’t end their war on federal workers or bring back the thousands of jobs lost last month— the steepest drop in 22 years according to experts. It doesn’t reverse six consecutive months of higher inflation from Trump’s tariffs, and it won’t revive the contracting manufacturing floors.
“Mounting layoffs, higher costs, and more uncertainty is the story of the Trump economy, yet the President doesn’t ‘want to hear about the affordability’. Republicans face a choice: end the shutdown, work with Democrats to deliver lower costs and build a brighter tomorrow for our families, or continue hiding from the President’s failures while their constituents face sticker shock and unaffordable consequences.
“That choice should be easy.”
