Neal Statement on Court Halting Trump’s $1.8 Billion Slush Fund for Criminals

SPRINGFIELD, MA— Ways and Means Committee Ranking Member Richard E. Neal (D-MA) released the following statement following reports that a federal judge in Virginia blocked the Trump Administration from any further action on their $1.8 billion slush fund as lawsuits proceed:

“The President’s lawsuit and slush fund have always been a graft, and while this is a welcome reprieve for the rule of law and taxpayer dollars, we know this fight isn’t over. House Republicans can’t shield themselves behind this temporary ruling and rest their laurels on the judicial system. They must stiffen their spines, join Democrats in standing up to Trump’s personal protection racket, and defend their constituents who are being stretched further every day while bankrolling billion-dollar grievances.”
