Neal Statement on CBO Report Highlighting Dangers of GOP ACA Repeal

January 17, 2017

WASHINGTON, DC – Ways and Means Committee Ranking Member Richard Neal (D-MA) today released the following statement after the non-partisan Congressional Budget Office (CBO) issued a report highlighting how Republicans' plan to repeal the Affordable Care Act (ACA) would increase the number Americans without health insurance to 32 million and double premiums by 2026:

"Today's CBO report is a clear repudiation of the Republicans' misguided plan to repeal the Affordable Care Act. More than 20 million previously uninsured Americans now have health insurance because of the ACA and the Republicans plan would launch our healthcare system into complete chaos. Today's report should hit home for them: taking apart our healthcare system could rip health insurance from 32 million people over the next decade and double premiums for hardworking middle-class families. I urge my Republican colleagues to work constructively with Democrats to improve the law and find bipartisan ways to build on the many successes that middle-class families are already benefiting from today thanks to the ACA. Turning back the clock on our healthcare system would be devastating to middle-class families, hospitals, and the communities they serve."
