Neal Statement on Bipartisan House Passage of Ways & Means Legislation to Strengthen IRS Oversight
WASHINGTON, DC—House Ways and Means Committee Chairman Richard E. Neal (D-MA) released the following statement after the House of Representatives passed H.R. 9640, the Presidential Tax Filing and Audit Transparency Act of 2022:
"The Presidential Tax Filing and Audit Transparency Act is not about any one president. It is not about being punitive or malicious. This legislation will put guardrails in place to right the wrongs the Ways and Means Committee uncovered earlier this week, and ensure the tax code is applied evenly and fairly to all, even the president.
"Today, the House bipartisanly stood up for the integrity of the presidency and the integrity of the tax system. I urge my colleagues in the Senate to join us in passing this legislation and strengthening our oversight of the IRS."
