Neal on Lower Drug Prices for Medicare
Latest win from Democrats’ Inflation Reduction Act
SPRINGFIELD, MA—Ways and Means Committee Ranking Member Richard E. Neal (D-MA) released the following statement after the latest slate of negotiated prescription drug prices was quietly released tonight:
“Tonight, without any fanfare, the Trump Administration quietly announced the latest win delivered by Democrats’ Inflation Reduction Act. Finally, some lower prices are on the horizon—a $12 billion savings for Medicare—yet this Administration refuses to acknowledge the progress. Instead, they’ve spent months undermining the success of Medicare’s new power to negotiate drug prices and it’s their sabotage that is leaving our seniors facing across-the-board price hikes next year. And as millions face sticker shock over their health premiums for 2026, let’s not forget, it was just five months ago that Republicans made the largest cut to health care in our nation’s history, ripping coverage from 15 million people.”
Last week, Neal joined Energy and Commerce Committee Ranking Member Frank Pallone, Jr. (D-NJ) and Education and Workforce Committee Ranking Member Robert C. “Bobby” Scott (D-VA) to introduce the Lowering Drug Costs for American Families Act. The bill builds on the drug pricing provisions Democrats passed in the Inflation Reduction Act and closes new loopholes created by Trump’s Big Ugly Bill that allow pharmaceutical companies to avoid or delay negotiation longer on life-saving drugs.
