January 18, 2017

WASHINGTON, DC – Ways and Means Committee Ranking Member Richard Neal (D-MA) and Health Subcommittee Ranking Member Sander Levin (D-MI) today released the following statements after President Obama nominated Jason Kearns, Chief International Trade Counsel for the Committee's Democratic staff, to serve on the U.S. International Trade Commission (ITC):

"Jason has been an invaluable part of the Ways and Means trade staff for more than a decade, and has built a knowledge base that is second-to-none," said Ranking Member Neal. "He understands the importance for our nation's trade deals to be crafted in a way that spreads the benefits of trade to all Americans, and has been a vocal proponent of ensuring our trade agreements are properly and rigorously enforced. I urge the Senate to consider Jason's nomination as I know he will be a strong addition to the International Trade Commission."

"Jason Kearns is a smart, talented, principled trade lawyer with an incredible work ethic," said Health Subcommittee Ranking Member Levin. "He is an advocate for strong trade remedy laws and a level playing field for US businesses and workers‎. His policy advice has been indispensable for the entire Ways and Means Committee and he has strong respect for Congress's role in crafting trade policy. When confirmed, he will be a strong voice on the ITC."
