Neal Calls Out Trump’s Illegal Child Care Revenge Ploy
WASHINGTON, DC—Ways and Means Committee Ranking Member Richard E. Neal (D-MA) blasted the Trump Administration for endangering children by attempting to exact political revenge against Democratic Governors:
“The Trump Administration’s reckless decision to interrupt child care funding nationwide and withhold billions more intended for families in states led by Democratic governors is sheer political retribution. Trump is governing through revenge, not policy. We know this because they targeted states where they have shown no evidence of fraud, like Minnesota, and put a stop to the in-progress effort to penalize fraud in Mississippi that generated criminal prosecutions and guilty pleas. It’s more baseless accusations and privacy-invading demands, echoing the chaos we saw earlier in this Administration when they let Elon Musk’s DOGE run roughshod through our government and put everyone’s privacy at risk.
“My Democratic colleagues and I will work to reverse this dangerous decision and make sure that child care providers, foster children, poor children, Adult Protective Services programs, job training, and others receive the help that Congress already authorized. With their own constituents put in harm’s way, I hope my Republican colleagues will join us in calling on the Administration to release the funds they are holding hostage and follow the law.”
