House Democrats to Join Community Leaders for Witness Wednesday Series to Share Stories of Unemployed Americans
WASHINGTON – On Wednesday, House Democrats will join faith, labor, civil rights and non-profit leaders for the first in a series of "Witness Wednesdays" to share stories of unemployed Americans who have been cut off of unemployment insurance. This event will be the first in a summer-long storytelling series at the Capitol. Since the expiration of federal unemployment benefits in December, three million Americans have been cut off of a vital lifeline, leaving many struggling to make ends meet and keep food on the table. The lapse in benefits has also impacted the economy, with the Congressional Budget Office projecting that extending the program would create 200,000 jobs this year.
