February 12, 2025

By introducing a Resolution of Inquiry, Ways and Means Democrats are fighting for access to documents, screenshots, and all relevant material related to the access and use of Treasury’s payment systems by Elon Musk & DOGE

WASHINGTON, DC—All Ways and Means Committee Democrats, led by Health Subcommittee Ranking Member Lloyd Doggett (D-TX), are using a key tool for Congress to conduct oversight of the Executive Branch and have introduced a Resolution of Inquiry into DOGE and Elon Musk’s hostile takeover of Treasury’s payment systems. This egregious breach of confidential tax and health information is a dangerous and unlawful invasion of every Americans’ privacy. Every Ways and Means Democrat is fighting to hold the Trump-Musk Administration accountable for this unprecedented breach of sensitive information.

“Privacy is next to liberty in our Democratic system, yet the President and his billionaire cabinet are jeopardizing that standard for their own power and enrichment and House Republicans haven’t so much as raised an eyebrow,” said Ranking Member Neal. “Every time this Administration threatens the health and well-being of the American people, Ways and Means Democrats will be there fighting and sounding the alarm, and I applaud Ranking Member Doggett for his steadfast leadership in exposing DOGE and protecting the American people’s data.”

“These unprecedented times call for this rarely used tool to seek answers to questions Trump has authorized DOGE to dodge. ‘Trust Musk’ is just not acceptable,” said Rep. Lloyd Doggett (D-TX). “We can unite in support of this reasonable Resolution to seek the transparency and accountability Americans deserve unless Republicans want to remain complicit with the wrongdoing.”

Ways and Means Democrats will continue using every tool available to conduct the necessary oversight of the Trump-Musk Administration for the good of the American people.

Lawmakers are giving the President and the Secretary of the Treasury 14 days to provide all documents and copies, records, audio recordings, memorandum, and more, to the House of Representatives relating to the following (1) access to, and usage of, Treasury’s payment systems by Elon Musk and DOGE; (2) access to, and usage of, confidential taxpayer information under Section 6103 of the Internal Revenue Code by Elon Musk and DOGE; and (3) any screenshots taken by Elon Musk and DOGE of Treasury payment systems data or records.
